DebugView on Dual Monitors

Dealing with dual monitors sometimes leave some programs on the secondary window. One of the utilities that I use daily for all of my BizTalk development is DebugView.

Since I constantly move from dual monitors (dock station) to a single monitor (laptop display), sometimes I forget to close the DebugView program on my primary monitor. Of course, this means that when I am demo something, I can't get to my DebugView program. It is really frustrating at times, since once you close the application, it saves the coordinates of where the application was last open. arghhhh.... I wish there was an option to turn this off.

Anyways, if you can't find your DebugView on your main window, open the regedit command and go to this hive:

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sysinternals\DbgView

and remove the Settings entry.

Now start DebugView, and it will be back to the center of the screen.

You know, Ornofrio, if you are having troubles getting your monitors to work there's a guy here at the office who has helped me with that stuff in the past.

I've heard dual monitors need to be *BOTH* turned on before being used by a DBA... ;)

Here's a situation/question for someone.

My primary machine is Winxp, Office 2007. I have dual monitors.

When I have an email message open on my primary monitor, and switch between the two monitors, I cannot click the message again. I have to close and reopen it.

My 2nd monitor is used to test other machines through TS. So sometimes I'm creating an email with regard to what I'm finding on the 2nd (TS) machine.

It's making me crazy not being able to jump back into my email message.

Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated!

I am not sure what the problems with your 2nd monitor will be. I think that maybe your message window is opening on a region that is not visible. You might want to right click on the desktop and select properties, look at the monitors. If you have them as 1,2, swap them to 2,1 temporarily, then select apply. This might bring that other window into a region that you can see. If so, then bring that outlook window into your main window, close that outlook window so that position is saved. Then restore back your monitor settings.
hope this helps.

wonder if you'll ever read this - but it's a ton easier to do this - next time you undock:

press alt-space (brings up the context menu)
press m (for move)
press left or right or up or down keys (bumps the window)
move your mouse (brings the window to your mouse location)

easier then regedit... get used to it and you can do this in under 2 seconds...

Thanks for the info. I will keep that in mind.!!

I have this problem. I don't like the alt-space solution for 2 reasons:
1) I have alt-space assigned to something else (launchy)
2) It doesn't always work that moving the mouse moves the window.

I have created a simple registry editing file that deletes the registry entry automatically - one double-click and you are good to go.
Simply copy the following into notepad and save as DebugViewFix.reg (or something similar, only the .reg is important obviously):

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Sysinternals\DbgView]
"Settings"=-
